The prestigious Breakthrough Prize in Fundamental Physics has been awarded to the four major experiments at CERN’s Large Hadron Collider: ATLAS, ALICE, CMS, and LHCb. Often referred to as the “Oscars of Science”, the $3 million award honors groundbreaking achievements in particle physics. It was awarded for “detailed measurements of Higgs boson properties confirming the symmetry-breaking mechanism of mass generation, the discovery of new strongly interacting particles, the study of rare processes and matter-antimatter asymmetry, and the exploration of nature at the shortest distances and most extreme conditions at CERN’s Large Hadron Collider.”
Researchers from the University of Siegen have been involved in the ATLAS experiment for over 30 years, contributing to detector development, data analysis, and the training of early-career scientists. To read the full article, click this link.
